Inspirational Friday
Hong Nhung’s outstanding performance on Trinh Cong Son’s “Roi Nhu Da Ngay Ngo.” This is by far the most engaging version I have heard. The beat is just “off the hook.”
Diggin’ the handsome 3D legos navigation on Vassar’s Cognitive Science site. Great job Chris.
Niebaum-Coppola Estate Winery is just inspiring with beautiful photos, elegant design, and importantly, jaw-dropping navigation.
A resume with a personal touch from Manon Carrie. Shoot! I’ll hire her any time.
“Roi Nhu Da Ngay Ngo” (TCS), singing by Hong Nhung is the best of the best.
By the way, there is no audio link on your post, Donny!
Mr. Trung actually agree with my musical judgement. I am glad :)
I don’t care what people are saying about Hong Nhung used TCS for her fame. if she didn’t have the talent, no matter what TCS did, she wouldn’t be where she is today. Even with all the rumors about her, my respect for her work is not affected. Keep up the creative work girl.
The link does work, sometimes the pipe gets jammed. You just have to retry if you want to download the mp3 file. It definitely worth it.
“Mr. Trung actually agrees with my musical judgment.” => I do agree with some of your critiques time to time recently. :-)
Hong Nhung was chosen (singing TCS’s songs) by TCS. If you look back on Kha’nh Ly (before 75′), Nobody can’t sing better than her also. Kha’nh Ly, Tri.nh Vi~nh Trinh and Hong Nhung are truly trained and succeeded by TCS’s teaching.
I got most of TCS’s songs in my media library except those in very early years of TCS’s. I’m still looking for those archives (old recording medium).
Maybe I have a problem to open the audio link. I’ll double check.
Thanks Donny! I’m glad you liked the cog sci design :)
I also got a kick out of the Manon Carrie link you posted, by the way. I thought her voice was a little fuzzy but all in all, it was a clever idea.
I beg your pardon Trung. TCS didn’t particularly “train” anyone to sing this or that way. And I actually can’t stand the Trinh Vinh Trinh’s voice. Just because she’s the sister absolutely doesn’t mean she has some kind of monopoly on his songs, or has the best interpretations. People may be attracted at first because of her name, but afterthat, nah, quite boooring.
Trung I have to go with Ha on this one. I don’t think Hong Nhung was trained to sing that way since she gives “Roi Nhu Da Ngay Ngo” her own intepretation. The song is supposed to be much slower than the way she performs. Plus, TCS music doesn’t include that Jazz sampling.
Speaking of Trinh Vinh Trinh, she has a soft and soothing voice but not strong enough to carry on a song. If you listen to her performance on “Xin Tra No Nguoi,” you can tell she lets go of the word “toi…” quickly unlike Tuan Ngoc who raised and held on to it beautifully.
Chris, your design is awesome. It is very well carried out.
Isn’t Manon Carrie halarious? Hey! She communicates well.
Ha & Donny,
I only meant in Trinh’s songs. Kha’nh Ly, Hong Nhung & Trinh Vinh Trinh were taught (trained) to sing the way that TCS want(ed) on how his songs convey to the listeners (captivating an artist’s intension).
Donny:
The music background is very important as well. In case of “Roi Nhu Da Ngay Ngo” (TCS), performed by Hong Nhung was outstanding (you also agree, so why bother questioning?), even though. It’s Jazz.
You quote:
“The song is supposed to be much slower than the way she performs. Plus, TCS music doesn’t include that Jazz sampling”
Of course, the time frame in most of CDs is always run faster than live performances. And it even pitches 2% to 5% faster when play on the Radio. These are the common senses in media business.
I have listened several Trinh’s songs in Jazz, Pop, and even Rock theme. Some are good and some are not. That’s the consequences of the producers (It happens mostly when people reproduce it.)
Ha:
In my opinion, Trinh Vinh Trinh sings good in some of Trinh’s songs only. But I found some songs with her unique performance that nobody can’t beat in these songs: “Con Ma*’t Co`n La.i (Country theme)”, Mo^.t Nga`y Nhu* Mo.i Nga`y (Pop standard), Nga`y Na^`y Kho^ng Co`n Be’ (Pop standard).”
Happy Friday to everyone!
Trung, I am talking about the song in general. Khanh Ly and Ngoc Lan sings it with a slow beat while Hong Nhung sings with up-tempo. I am not talking about live performance vs. CD.
But anyhow, It’s outstanding. Right?
What are you saying Trung? I am not arguing about her performance. I am just saying she has enough talent to express Trinh’s music on her own. That’s all.
I have noticed you’d change your site to an eastern time. Why is that?
I am living on the Eastcoast dude. LOL!
So why was it in Western time before?
Move the server or somethin’?
I got to go. My day is over (2pm western time). See you Monday.
Cheerio!
No. my host is in the Westcoast. I didn’t realized it was Westcost time until recently.
I agree with Trung, Hong Nhung is trained by TCS to his expectation. TCS LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVES Hong Nhung for some reason, my dad was his “ba.n nha^.u” friend when TCS was still alive.
Hung, wait a minute. You didn’t mean TCS loved (infatuated) Hong Nhung sexually, right? But what the hell, what if he was, so what? right? mabe you find out more information about TCS from your dad.
Ba của Hùng là bạn nhậu với TCS. Có lẽ đôi khi họ tâm sự với nhau khi họ cụng chén say sưa.
