French sure is a romantic language. Although I don’t understand what she sings, the soft, sweet and sensuous vocals of the young Vietnamese-Belgian Quynh Anh captivated me on “Bonjour Viet Nam,” a French ballad written by Marc Lavoine.
That is so beautiful. Is there a better quality file, Donny ?
I heard this a while ago. Quite a talent.
i enjoyed listening to this song so much that i decided to look for more of her work. apparently she only recently came onto the music scene via winning a RTBF contest. as a result, she does not seem to have an album as of yet. however i did manage to dig up some more of her tunes while web scouring. j’espère is a duet she does with marc lavoine, the guy behind “bonjour vietnam.” i can’t wait until she cuts an album.

I regret I couldn’t listen to Quynh Anh singing “Hello Vietnam” to truly appreciate what was so much praised for. What is the use of describing the song as nice,as beautiful… if one cannot listen to it anywhere anymore? Will someone be nice enough to make the song available for listening? I love the photos. My country is incredibly beautiful. I think the English version that posted above is more familiar to Vietnamese, rather than the original French version which is too flowery and many mysterious words, not a type of Vietnamese.

It’s the Vietnamese translation by “C” that’s flowery and grandiloquent. The original French is quite simple, much like the English text submitted by Hai. (Praise for Hai if it was his). French-speaking Vietnamese should feel the song’s language familiar, much like Andy with the English translation. Anyway, praise for Donny Truong for bringing us together, agreement with Hai that we should respect her copyright. Quynh Anh’s voice is beautiful and expressive, Marc Lavoine’s words more or less reflect the European view of Vietnam (as synonymous with the war), European Vietnamese might not articulate the same thinking of Viet Nam.

Firstly, three cheers for Marc Lavoine for taking Vietnam to the world, Frech-speaking one at least. I love Bonjour Vietnam’s melody, because it’s just so simple and sweet, and also treasure the lyrics, because they are able to capture the best highlights of our country.
Secondly, Marc seems to pose some serious questions for us, Vietnamese to think about:
Number one, how and what to do both to enrich and to preserve our natural and cultural heritage, such as: les marches flottants, les sampans de bois, les temples, so that generations to come continue to enjoy it?.
Number two, we got to tackle the sensitive issue that Marc appears to put forward as he cleverly places the image of “les temples et les Bouddhas de pierre pour mes peres” in contrast to “les femmes courbes dans les rizieres pour mes meres”. I often heard my Caucasian friends express their concern upon seeing our women overworked and our men underworked or no help at all. What a shame if we don’t see this ‘women-right’ issue and do something about it. What do you think about it, ladies?

QA really has a sweet voice and she is also able to deliver the emotion in her performance. Vietnamese girls can definately sing French songs! She reminds me of some of my friends in my French class in HS back in Vietnam Promising talent. I am waiting to buy her albums here in the US. She does not need to worry about having a big fan base, as long as she has the Viet community, her CDs will sell

Cho chú gửi tới cháu lời cảm ơn về bài hát Bonjour VietNam qua giọng hát tuyệt vời của cháu . Chú đã lớn tuổi và mặc dù đang sinh sống tại Việt Nam vẫn nghe lòng mình rưng rưng qua giai điệu bài hát được giọng ca thiết tha của cháu đẩy lên trên cả tầm nghệ thuật , chú cảm nhận được nỗi khắc khoải hướng về quê Mẹ qua từng câu hát của cháu , của những đứa con xa xứ nhớ về nguồn cội. Unbelievable to say the least. It takes a lot to impress this old soldier, but this did!!!! I have worked with French military, and have no burning desire to learn French, yet even this callous heart was swayed by this person and her voice and this beautiful song sung in French. The english we found has beautiful words, but ahhhhh—the lyrics as presented via her voice in French, are stunning. The photos brought tears and smiles. Bravo–well done–both of you. This all was sent to my wife, a Vietnamese, and I from a friend in Viet Nam. I was in Viet Nam during the war and many times since. I know this song has not been master on a CD yet but that’s ok for the copyright issue. I like her voice and Bonjour Vietnam enough that I will buy her first album when it is released to support her and also to know her other songs. People who don’t know her or don’t like her, don’t buy copyrighted CD anyway. PHAM QUYNH ANH, you are famous already!

What a voice! Hope Quynh Anh can and will sing in Vietnamese too. I also hope that new Vietnamese songs will be written to add to the seriously old but great classic Vietnamese songs, such as ones by Ngo Thuy Mien, etc. My 3-year old daughter probably will want to listen to her singing a million times.
Khanh Ly and Thai Thanh, who probably are the two greatest Vietnamese singer in my opinion, probably are impressed by Quynh Anh’s voice.

No words can describe the beauty of the song by Marc Lavoine, its perfect presentation by Quynh Anh, and the vast array of emotions the song is stirring: love for the fatherland, joy for being a part of the experience, sadness for being born away from the home country and still living away from it, but pride and sense of belonging to and togetherness with other Vietnamese compatriots spanding the globe. More of such meaningful and uplifting songs should be composed by artists with a heart!

1. Why it is MARC LAVOINE but not a Vietamese, who has written this song. The song contains the whole root of every Vietnamese people. Marc, I really don’t know you but I must say that your soul is so so great!!! Thank you for reminding me, us, the whole Vietnamese people, know where we come from, and where we belong to!
2. Quynh Anh, you are great, your voice are so great. I can’t hold me tear when I listen to this song and see the picture of it. I, we, Vietnamese people are really pround of you. I wish you all the best.
3. May I respestly ask Vietnamese song writters, either you live in Vietnam or out side of Vietnam, please could you write more songs about our country, our people with your heart and your soul rather than trying to modify the foreigner lyrics?(!)

BONJOUR VIETNAM
Tôi chưa bao giờ viết về một nhân vật nào có thực. Trong dăm ba truyện ngắn, tôi vẽ lên những nhân vật tưởng tượng theo ý của tôi, mang nhiều nét hư cấu hơn là thật. Đây là lần đầu tiên tôi viết về một nhân vật đang sống giữa chúng ta, những người Việt tỵ nạn. Một cô gái, nói đúng hơn, một cô bé vừa 19 tuổi.
Tôi phải viết đôi dòng về cô bé, về bản nhạc cô gửi gắm tâm sự. Có lẽ đây là nỗi băn khoăn chung của các cháu sinh ra và lớn lên ở xứ người, muốn tìm về cội nguồn. Nhưng lý do chính để tôi viết về cô vì đây cũng chính là niềm khắc khoải của riêng tôi.
Vào những ngày cuối năm, gần Tết Âm lịch, một người bạn gửi cho tôi một trang nhà có hình một cô bé và kèm theo một bài hát do chính cô hát. Cái tựa đề bài hát làm tôi chú ý, “Bonjour Vietnam”. Cái số vốn Pháp ngữ của tôi đã rỉ sét từ lâu, nhưng đọc một vài hàng chữ, tôi cũng hiểu lờ mờ ý nghĩa của bài hát. Tò mò, tôi bấm nút “play” để nghe cô trình bày.
Trước hết, tôi xin ghi lại lời Việt của D.H., một người trên diễn đàn, đã bỏ công dịch rất thoát nhưng vẫn giữ được nguyên vẹn ý nghĩa tuyệt vời của bài hát. Tôi cũng xin ghi lại nguyên bản của Marc Lavoine.
Mến chào Việt-Nam
Hãy kể tôi nghe về cái tên xa lạ và khó gọi
mà tôi đã đeo mang tự thuở chào đời

Giọng hát cô cao vút, trầm lắng vào những đoạn thở than, nhắn gửi. Nhất là điệp khúc: Un jour, j’irai là-bas, un jour dire bonjour à ton âme. Un jour, j’irai là-bas [pour] te dire bonjour, Vietnam… nghe thật buồn. Về chỉ để chào mảnh đất thân yêu, nơi mà cha mẹ cô đã gạt nước mắt ra đi. Cô chỉ nghe nói đến mảnh đất buồn thảm này qua sách báo, qua phim ảnh mà chưa hề một lần đặt chân đến. Ôi! Bản nhạc diễn tả nỗi khắc khoải của lớp trẻ muốn tìm về cội nguồn, để thấy lại màu da, để ngửi được mùi của đất, của núi rừng và biển mặn và từ đó hiểu được nỗi cơ cực của cha ông đã từng giữ nước bằng máu và mồ hôi.
Tôi thương nhất hai chữ Việt nam cô buông nhẹ ở cuối bài hát nghe bùi ngùi làm sao! Lòng tôi chùng xuống. Nhắm mắt lại tôi thấy cả một dĩ vãng, mảnh đất nơi tôi sinh ra và lớn khôn. Ôi! Biết bao kỷ niệm vui buồn mà đến tận bây giờ vẫn còn in đậm nét trong tâm trí. Căn nhà thuở tôi còn nhỏ, vào những ngày lụt lội không thể đến trường, tha hồ đùa giỡn với mực nước ngập đến ngang đầu gối. Những lần chơi rượt bắt với chúng bạn, ném vụ, đánh khăng… Giã từ những trò chơi trẻ con, tôi lớn lên và bắt đầu ươm mơ cùng với đèn sách. Những đêm chong đèn học thi đến mệt nhoài, buổi sớm mai thức dậy uể oải người nhưng vẫn cắm đầu vào chồng sách miệt mài. Tôi trở thành người lớn sau vài ba năm ở đại học và thoáng một ngày cuối tháng Tư nắng gắt, tôi không còn thấy tôi nữa. Tôi sống chìm giữa đau thương chung của dân Việt, băn khoăn không biết phải làm gì có ích cho đất nước, cho gia đình. Rồi cuối cùng tôi đành phải bỏ mảnh đất đó để ra đi tìm tự do như bao nhiêu người khác…
Hai tiếng Việt nam ở cuối câu hát phả nhẹ vào lòng tôi hương thơm ngày cũ. Tôi không có dịp quay trở lại quá khứ, chỉ trong những đêm trằn trọc giấc ngủ trễ, hoặc những dịp tình cờ nghe đâu đó một bản nhạc nhắc nhở một kỷ niệm nằm chôn dấu sâu trong tâm tư. Những lúc đó, tôi âm thầm sống lại với dĩ vãng.
Tôi cảm nhận được quá khứ qua hai nốt nhạc ở cuối câu của Marc Lavoine, người nhạc sĩ. Mà không riêng gì hai nốt nhạc của chữ Việt nam mà mỗi cuối câu Marc Lavoine đều điểm thật nhẹ rất thần tình, có khi cùng một nốt (la guerre, petit pieds, inconnu, ma terre…), có khi khác nốt (bridés, colère, mes mères…) nhưng đều để lại một cái gì thật nhẹ, thật lưu luyến, vấn vương.
Tôi không hiểu nhiều về âm nhạc, nhưng với một bản nhạc đầy ý nghĩa như thế được diễn tả qua giọng hát trong veo của một cô gái Việt đã làm tôi thổn thức. Nỗi thao thức của lớp trẻ hôm nay muốn tìm về cội nguồn cũng là niềm thao thức của tôi sau bao nhiêu năm rời bỏ mảnh đất thân yêu.
Cám ơn cháu Phạm Quỳnh Anh đã cho tôi những giây phút tuyệt vời của dòng nhạc, của giọng hát, chuyên chở một trời Việt nam đến cho mọi người, trong đó có tôi.

(VietNamNet) – Tuổi thơ trôi qua trong chiến tranh, thuở cắp sách đến trường tôi không biết đến thơ ca nhạc họa. Có chăng chỉ là những vần thơ kháng chiến được minh họa trong “trích giảng văn học”, và những làn điệu dân ca xứ sở thấm đẫm vào máu qua lời ru của mẹ. Thế nhưng, khi được nghe bài Bonjour Việt Nam, vượt qua sự xúc động thông thường, tôi đã không cầm nổi nước mắt.
Theo giới thiệu của bạn bè, qua Google, tôi đã được nghe “Bonjour Việt Nam” trên mạng Internet. Và, cảm giác thật lạ lùng… Tôi nghe đi nghe lại, và lần nào cũng thấy xúc động đến nao lòng, dù không biết một nốt nhạc, không hề hiểu đến một câu tiếng Pháp. Và rồi, tôi phải cấp tốc lùng tìm bản dịch tiếng Việt, để có thể hiểu được những lời hát đã làm tôi xốn xang. Trong mỗi lời ca, mỗi làn điệu như thấm cả hồn cốt của nhiều thế hệ.
Dường như, Bonjour Việt Nam không còn đơn thuần là một bản nhạc, một bài thơ mà là một “công trình nghệ thuật”, qua đó người nghe có thể cảm nhận được lịch sử, được văn hoá, được âm hưởng từ ngàn năm hồn thiêng sông núi vọng về. Mỗi lẫn nghe lại thấy hồi hộp như người đang yêu, lại thấy rung động trong tiếng hát của người con nước Việt xa Tổ quốc, vẳng về những âm thanh sâu lắng và thảng thốt. “Chào hỏi giùm những bà mẹ của tôi, những phụ nữ đang cong lưng trên ruộng lúa; Trong lời nguyện cầu, trong ánh sáng, tôi thấy lại những người anh. Tôi về với tiếng lòng, với cội nguồn, với đất mẹ quê cha…” Tiếng hát như một làn gió mỏng tang, trong suốt và mềm mại, cuốn vào đó những tình cảm quê hương thiết tha.
Người thể hiện bài hát là Phạm Quỳnh Anh, một cô gái người Bỉ gốc Việt, có khuôn mặt dễ thương như một nữ sinh thuần Việt, trong veo và sâu lắng như những làn điệu dân ca tự thuở nào. Bonjour Việt Nam với sự thể hiện của Quỳnh Anh có sức truyền cảm kỳ lạ. Nghe giọng hát, ngắm nhìn khuôn mặt cô, người ta thấy sự trong sáng của trẻ thơ; để quên hết thù hận, chỉ thấy một tình thương bao la, một nỗi khắc khoải, tấm lòng của những người con xa xứ.
Qua bản dịch của Đào Hùng, lời của bài hát như hiện lên cái mộc mạc, cái chân quê của đất mẹ thân yêu: “Hãy kể tôi nghe về cái tên xa lạ và khó gọi; mà tôi đã đeo mang tự thuở chào đời; Hãy kể tôi nghe về vương triều cũ và đôi mắt xếch của tôi; Ai nói rõ hơn tôi về những gì người không dám thốt…”
Hình ảnh đất nước hiện lên với quá khứ đau thương như một phần của đời sống nhân loại, một tất yếu của lịch sử, không còn những sự cay cú ăn thua như cách nghĩ còn vương vấn đâu đó trong đầu một số người cố chấp. “Tôi chỉ biết về người qua những hình ảnh của chiến tranh; Một cuốn phim của Coppola và những chiếc trực thăng trong cơn thịnh nộ… ; Một ngày kia, tôi sẽ đến nơi ấy để chào hỏi hồn người; Một ngày kia, tôi sẽ đến nơi ấy để cất tiếng chào Việt Nam “
Lời của bài hát với những âm hưởng da diết đã diễn tả nỗi khắc khoải của lớp trẻ muốn tìm về cội nguồn để cảm nhận được màu da rám nắng, để ngửi mùi của đất, của núi rừng và biển mặn trong đó có vị mồ hôi. Từ đó hiểu được nỗi cơ cực của cha ông đã có công mở mang bờ cõi, gìn giữ không chỉ bằng mồ hôi mà còn cả bằng xương, bằng máu và cả những nỗi khắc khoải để vươn lên bằng người. Hãy kể tôi nghe về màu da, mái tóc và đôi bàn chân đã cưu mang tôi tự thuở chào đời. Hãy kể tôi nghe về căn nhà, con đường, hãy kể tôi nghe những điều chưa biết; Về những phiên chợ nổi trên sông và những con thuyền tam bản bằng gỗ.
Mặc dù bản nhạc mới chỉ là một sự phác thảo, chưa được phát hành chính thức, nhưng chừng đó thôi cũng đủ cho những người bình thường như tôi cảm nhận được hồn cốt dân tộc. Cám ơn Phạm Quỳnh Anh, một nữ sinh gốc Việt, đại diện cho thế hệ trẻ lớn lên tại hải ngoại, đã cất lên lời hoài vọng quê hương. Cám ơn bà Trần Thị Minh Huệ, một bà mẹ Việt Nam dẫu đã xa Tổ Quốc hàng chục năm nay nhưng vẫn thường xuyên chuyển tải những tình cảm quê hương đất Việt vào cô con gái. Nếu không có sự rung động từ đáy lòng, Quỳnh Anh không thể thể hiện bài hát thành công đến thế.
Tôi muốn nói lời cám ơn ngàn lần đến tác giả của bản nhạc, ông Marc Lavoine, một người bạn Pháp, chỉ vì yêu Việt Nam đã viết nên ca từ tuyệt vời, thêm vào đó là những làn điệu tha thiết như được thốt lên bởi một tình yêu vô bờ với Việt Nam. Rất tiếc là tôi chưa có nhiều thông tin về ông. Tôi chỉ mới biết, sau khi sáng tác xong bản nhạc, ông đã đi rất nhiều nơi để tìm người thể hiện. Và ông đã gặp Quỳnh Anh Khi đên Bruxelles. Cô được ông lựa chọn không chỉ vì chất giọng mà còn vì cả khuôn mặt diễn tả được niềm hy vọng. Chợt nghĩ, một người Pháp còn có thể yêu Việt Nam đến như vậy, không có lý do gì để những người Việt lại không yêu nhau, dẫu đó là những người con hiện đang sống trên 100 quốc gia và vùng lãnh thổ trên toàn thế giới.
Bằng sức sống mãnh liệt của mình, Bonjour Việt Nam không chỉ chuyển tải tình cảm, tâm hồn của dân tộc mà còn chuyển tải hình ảnh của đất nước trong công cuộc hội nhập. I fell for it, the sweetness of the voice, the words – since I was born in a belgian former colony in Africa – and all I have been trying to forget came on top again. I first heard this in July 2006 when I visited my Vietnamese friend in France. I looked everywhere for it, but there were only the poor quality audio/video tracks on You Tube and no where I could download a good quality audio version from.
Today I’ve just discovered that it’s been translated into English (for the USA market), but it sounds very clumsy and doesn’t translate well.
I still want a good quality copy of the French version though – it sounds much better! Anyone know where I can get hold of a good quality copy?
