Jazz Interaction
The clip of Kevin Mahogany interacting with the drummer brings back the good old memories when Dana and I were still dating. It was the first concert we went together. We had no idea who Kevin Mahogany, but we were hooked the minute the big man with a big, beautiful tone stepped on stage. (Another great find, big bro. I have to see you try something like that at Quan Van Nova next time. Deal?)
Again, thanks for the mention, Doanh. You know I would love to be able to do things like that. It’s much easier said than done though: a Viet jazz musician, our bro Ngô Minh Trí, once mentioned to me, “It’s just not in our blood.” Ray Brown and Mahogany and Marsalis and the likes, grew up with jazz. It’s a mindset, vs. something that you learn…It’s a standing joke within our group that our music is either Bolero, Slow, Slow Rock, or Slower… Rock! It’s a mindset!
@HmL: Are you the bassist or the drummer? If the latter, I think we know each other. Thought I was gonna make it to your show on 04/04 but unfortunately can’t. Keep up the good work!
I am the bassist, TF. Swing by, if not 4/4, then in the future. Would love to meet you.
