despite being a fan, I gotta say I love your description of her, pop has never been a category to be taken seriously although there have been some gems. she does it well, at least she’s not pretentious about it like a lot of the younger viet pop singers over at Asia who think they produce golden eggs…to inept children.

No one does “Anh Phai Lam Sao” like Phan Dinh Tung. He is the king of this type of music. The song sticks in my head even when Duke cries. When I just don't know what else to do, I would just belt out, "phai lam sao, bay gio ba phai lam sao? :)

Lam Thuy Van doesn’t do it better, she’d be on top if she did. Minh Tuyet’s voice was made for these conflict songs. Nothing wrong with listening to them once in a while.

I actually have the same exact thought as you do about Minh Tuyet. Minh Tuyet used to annoy the heck out of me but I have to admit that she is darn good with those instant noodle pop songs. She is able to turn a song as crappy as “Em Phai Lam Sao?” into something semi-decent. But then too much ramen can make you awfully sick… I was finished by the halfway mark
