Ethan Thoi – Khong Gian Bach Bien
On his debut Khong Gian Bach Bien, Vietnamese-Australian Ethan Thoi tries to please everyone from teenyboppers to club bangers to ballroom dancers. While he succeeds in giving “Thu Ca” a refreshing tango flavor, he flops miserably with the horrendous use of Auto-Tune effects (T-Paining too much) on “Hot Stuff.” Just when I thought “Hot Stuff” is an unsurpassable dud comes the Chinese bonus track, “Ai De Chu Ti Ya,” and the worst part is when he started to rap in Chinese. Ethan’s voice is actually decent (clear and forceful), but his song materials are pretty much garbage.
I think Ethan can sing PasoDoble music really well, and disco songs too. Suitable for his voice..he was a performer in Miss Saigon. Im a friend of him…Will listen to the cd when i get a hold of it!
He sounds better in Chinese than other languages. Keep singing Chinese to your Vietnamese listeners Ethan. Just another bad CD from Vietnam that has… nothing and no respect for listeners.
Thats a bit harsh…How does it show no respect for listeners? Sure u may not like it, but it does not mean he does not have respects for listeners. Ethan is Chinese and therefore can sing in Chinese..afterall there are quite a lots of Chinese living in Vietnam..
Even international albums can fail, not just from VN. And there are some good albums from Vietnam recently…Try Ho Ngoc Ha, Ha Anh Tuan and Phuong Linh, Thu Minh, Thanh Lam and Phuong Uyen and Le Minh duet cd…
