Thanh Tâm – Cánh Đồng Tình Yêu
Với chất giọng sương khói và rất có hồn, Thanh Tâm dể dàng thu hút người nghe ở bất cứ nhạc phẩm nào. Từ giai điệu êm dịu trong “Tháng Tư Về” của Dương Thụ, đến nổi sầu bởi chiến tranh trong “Mùa Hoa Cải ” của Lê Vinh, cho đến cái dí nhỏm trong “Bờm” của Hồ Trọng Tuấn, Thanh Tâm ghép khá nhiều thể loại vào trong album mới nhất: Cánh Đồng Tình Yêu.
Tuy Thanh Tâm trình bài hầu hết các nhạc phẩm khá trọn vẹn, Cánh Đồng Tình Yêu không có một đường lối khẳng định. Vì có quá nhiều khác biệt giữa những bài ca khiến người nghe không được tập trung. Một album thành công sẽ bắt người nghe chú ý từng bài một từ khi mở CD lên cho đến phút cuối. Những bài nhạc phải được liên kết với nhau thì album mới trở thành chặt chẻ, hoàn chỉnh được.
Cánh Đồng Tình Yêu thiếu xót điều đó. Chẳng hạn như cô đang tung tăng đùa vui với thằng “Bờm” có cái quạt mo bổng dưng chuyển qua bom đạn trong “Huyền Thoại Mẹ” của Trịnh Công Sơn. “Em Gái Quê Mình” (Trần Quế Sơn) đang tươi tắng trên đồng quê bổng dưng “Ôm trăng đánh giấc bên đồi Dạ Lan.”
Hòa âm của album cũng chứa đựng khá nhiều màu sắc. Nhất là giai điệu quê hương qua cách quyện khéo léo những nhạc cụ truyền thống. Nhưng mỗi nhạc sĩ (Thanh Phương, Minh Đao, Phan Cường, Trần Minh Tuấn và Huyền Trung) đem đến một hương vị khác nhau và được trộn lại như một nồi lẩu thập cẩm, ăn lần đầu thì ngon nhưng ăn mỗi ngày thì sẽ ngán lắm.

Thanks for the link. Linda Bui is unbelievable, especially in the song on her link. I also looked her up on youtube and was amazed by her accent in Spanish (her singing of Para tu amor, however, was no comparison to others- she was probably just fooling around in her bedroom anyway).

“Tuy Thanh Tâm trình bài hầu hết ” trinh bay is the correct word …u must be from mien Nam as thats how they say it…but its written as “trinh bay”

Donny, Pham Thien Thu’s intention for his poem was anything but “sau the tham”. He realized the impermanence and inevitability of it all…”song nay day chay mot dong thoi”…accepted it…”thoi thi thoi chi la phu van”…and was liberated from it all. “om trang danh giac danh giac ben doi Da Lan”: doesn’t sound like a guy in agony to me!
Indeed. Pham Thien Thu, a Hai Phong-born poet, used to be a monk (Thich Tue Khong) and once in a rare while, you would find some sadness in his verses, but he looked at/ made fun of it from the point of view of someone who had gone beyond that point.
Yeah, he went wayyyy beyond! Dude boinked a fair share of followers/groupies in his hey days. His life ended up kinda sad though. Last I heard, he’d gone mad practicing something called “phan tam phap”. Talking about “tau hoa nhap ma”!
He is running a cafe called Hoa Vang in Saigon, I heard. He had a tough life as a married man. The entire Thien Ca (Zen Cantos) Collection by Pham Duy was actually a collaboration between the musician and this poet. Still, he was the Allen Ginsberg (without the dirty language LOL) of Vietnam during the war.

Vậy phân biệt làm chi?” This is a comment I had been waiting for a long time because it reflects the non-duality principle which is very distinctive of Buddhism: no value is absolute and the world is not grouped into the “evil” versus the “moral”.
But be careful, say this to some of the rabidly conservative people and they will call you “socialist” LOL:

Gee, everything I typed a minute ago disappeared! Anyway, thanks for the stimulating link. Pham Duy’s Thien Ca, indeed, highlighted some very important principles of Buddhism, such as its non-duality: nothing is absolute and the world does split into “moral” versus “evil”. It also tackles Creationism which was imported into Vietnam from the West. Great article!

May I recommend Nguyen Hien Le’s interpretation of the Tao Te King? Not fond of Chinese influence but this book has always been my compass in life.
